FAQ

Q: What are your phone and fax numbers?
A: Main Office (Costa Mesa, CA) Ph 714.543.3366 Fax 714.543-3388

Q: Where do you work?
A: We have done most of our work in Southern California (Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties), but we have also worked in many other areas, too, including Oregon, Colorado and Texas.

Q: What types of work are you known for?
A: We have done a lot of tilt-up construction, over 50 year’s worth. We have built over 1000 tilt-up buildings ranging in size from 2,500 s.f. to almost 1,000,000 s.f. This is still our primary area of emphasis. In addition to this we have done a lot of food industry work including food processing facilities, food distribution warehouses, freezers, etc. We have used both tilt-up and poured-in-place methods to complete these projects.

Q: Do you do any consulting?
A: We have done consulting on an informal basis and made formal presentations for the Tilt-up Concrete Association. We would like to expand this area of our business and have people available with the expertise and willingness to travel that are needed to do this kind of work. Our areas of special knowledge include tilt-up, slabs on grade, food industry related structural concrete, and concrete estimating.

Q: What is the experience level of your key people?
A: All of our key people have construction industry experience of 10 years or more. Our senior building superintendent has over 30 years with our company building tilt-up buildings, and our senior concrete superintendent has over 25 years of experience. For resumes of our key people, please see that section of our web site.

Q:
What kinds of projects do you like to do?
A:
Our typical project is a concrete job in the $1 million to $3 million range. We have done projects as large as $10 million and as small as a few thousand dollars. A large tilt-up warehouse would be a very likely project for us to do, as would a job including footings, slab and poured-in-place stem walls for a metal building or cold storage building. We prefer more difficult jobs where we can make good use of our experienced people.

Q: How do tilt-up building costs compare to other types of construction?
A:
Just as with other types of buildings, costs vary widely depending on size and amenities. As a general rule, tilt-up buildings will cost a bit more than metal buildings and about the same or less than masonry buildings. Pre-cast panels provide competition for tilt-up in some areas, but tilt-up should be cheaper than pre-cast if the tilt-up walls are used as bearing walls and if an experienced tilt-up contractor is available to do the work.

Q: What are the advantages of using tilt-up?
A:
The main advantage of tilt-up is the tremendous flexibility that it affords the designer. Almost any shape, size or texture imaginable is available when using this method of construction. In many areas tilt-up is cheaper than masonry, while still providing the durable walls that many customers demand. The cost advantage increases where wall heights get to 40 feet or more. Tilt-up also offers an excellent way to construct insulated walls needed in cold climates or refrigerated buildings. In short, it is more durable than metal and more flexible and often less expensive than masonry or pre-cast. If a qualified tilt-up contractor is available in your area, it is a construction method that is hard to beat.

We can work as a subcontractor or a general contractor, but our emphasis is on subcontracting.

Q:
What types and sizes of buildings are best suited for tilt-up?
A:
Most tilt-up buildings are used for warehouses and factories, but we have used tilt-up effectively for low-rise office buildings, mini-storage facilities, and strip malls. Typically, tilt-up buildings are 20,000 s. f. or larger, but we have used this method of construction for buildings as small as 2,500 s. f. In fact, we have done more buildings that were less than 20,000 s. f. than greater, and we have built over 1,000 tilt-up buildings.
